Integrating Ayurveda in Your Daily Life: A Workshop with Savita Leah Young

Saturday, April 16th, 2011

On the mat, we engage body, mind and spirit to maintain vitality, clarity and balance. And sometimes its just not enough. The stresses of daily living compromise our immune, digestive and nervous systems and environmental toxins tax our respiratory, reproductive and elimination systems. As we age, we loose vitality, clarity, strength and endurance. Life is a challenge!

Ayurveda offers the wisdom of yoga off the mat. By applying these 5000 year old principles, we create lifestyle adjustments and supports necessary for the optimum function of our body, mind and spirit; giving an opportunity for the body to heal, the mind to clear and the spirit to soar.

Learn about daily, seasonal and lifetime cycles and how to maximize the elements in support of these cycles. Discover the importance of the digestive system in maintaining optimum health, thus ensuring vitality, strength and flexibility on all levels. In this introductory workshop we will learn about the foundations of Ayurveda and students will discover their own innate balance and potential for imbalances as well as how to create a personal Diet and Lifestyle Plan.

Date and Time: April 24th 1-4pm

Cost: $65.00 plus HST

Location: Coastal Bliss Yoga Studio

Ayurvedic tips for living life in the flow of nature during the winter:

  • balance the cold weather by eating warm foods to enhance circulation and increase enzyme activity
  • drink warm water instead of ice water
  • to stimulate digestion add heating spices into your cooking like black pepper, ginger and mustard seeds
  • try a 1 day detoxifying fast (or Eoin Finn’s Detox Flow class on Jan 2nd)
  • get your body moving with exercise like yoga (very helpful before and after surfing in the cold ocean)

Please email info@coastalblissyoga.com or call 1-888-589-2246 with any comments, questions or concerns. Your thoughts and feedback are valuable in our ability to give back to this amazing community.

California Bliss

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Spending the weekend immersing myself in the teachings of Ayurveda. Here I am in California, where in my mom’s garden, fall seems to linger into January and there is no sign of winter. What a treat!

The basic principle of Ayurveda is to prevent and treat illness by maintaining balance in the body, mind, and soul through proper diet, exercise and lifestyle, as well as herbal remedies.

Ayurveda:

The ‘Science of Life’ is

India’s traditional, natural system of medicine that has been practiced for more than 5,000 years. Ayurveda provides an integrated approach to preventing and treating illness through lifestyle interventions and natural therapies. Ayurvedic theory states that all disease begins with an imbalance or stress in the individual’s consciousness. Ayurveda is Yoga’s sister science.
